How To Wear Backhangers
In days of olde, a backhanger was used to safely strap your sword across your back. This allowed a comfortable sword hanger solution to display the two handed handle of a long sword as it rose above the shoulder.
Our backhangers are worn on the shoulder like a rifle sling. The top of the backhanger secures to the throat of your scabbard and the bottom secures to a point above the tip. This allows you to carry your sword over one shoulder (a personal favorite for most because it allows easy on-off but still lets the handle stick up over the shoulder), or carry your sword diagonally across your back (which looks really good when your sword is over your cloak).
The photo below demonstrates how your backhanger looks on the shoulder as well as diagonally (waist belt is separate).
Backhanger Frog Assembly:
Each backhanger has one upper cinch frog fixed at the top (left side of photo below), plus two (2) lower cinch frogs that are interchangeable (right side of photo below). The upper cinch frog will fit a scabbard throat (top of scabbard) of 2-1/2 inches to 4 inches (+/-).
The next photo (below) shows how the lower cinch frog is attached with threaded rivets to the base of the backhanger using the holes marked "B". The holes marked "A" are for the leather lacing strap (a single piece included with each backhanger).
Please note the lower cinch frog in the photo above is provided in two sizes. One size is for swords that don't taper (i.e. Claymores, blades that have the same width for the entire length of the blade) and the second, smaller frog is for swords that taper (wider blade by the handle that narrows towards the tip, often to a point). Once you have selected the appropriate lower cinch frog to attach to the lower part of the backhanger, you will need to lace the frog (just like you would a shoe).
The following two photos show how the lower frog can be mounted in two ways. In the first photo below, the lower frog (closest to the sword tip) has been mounted on the back side (under side or bottom) of the backhanger main strap. This allows you to wear a longer sword or to wear your sword with a looser fit.
The second photo (below) shows the lower frog mounted on the front side (top) of the backhanger main strap. This allows you to wear a shorter sword or any length sword tighter around you body.
