Gorget
Originally, a Gorget was a feature of older types of armour. It functioned as a steel collar protecting the neck and throat against swords and other non-projectile weapons. Most Medieval Gorgets were worn under the breastplate and backplate set. The lower portion of the gorget supported the weight of the armour worn over it, and many were equipped with straps for attaching the heavier armour plates. The gorget became primarily ornamental in the 18th century, serving only as a symbolic accessory on military uniforms.
Our historical gorget has a clean design with small brass rivets and a reinforced neck collar. The edges are rolled and patterned for a regal look and is suitable for wearing with armor or alone over a doublet as a symbol of status. Made of 18ga carbon steel with a generous 19-20 inch inner-neck opening.
