The Bowie Knife became a part of history after the infamous Sandbar Fight on a sandbar on the Mississippi River near Natchez, Mississippi in 1827. During the fighting he managed to fend-off his major opponents using his large, custom made knife. Newspapers far and wide copied the stories from the Natchez papers and soon every man wanted a knife like Jim Bowie.
