Spanish Treasure Coins
Just as they might look today!
This hard to find and unique replica set of Spanish treasure coins is based upon four historic designs of Spanish coins commonly used between 1572-1773. Each Spanish Treasure Coins set is a mixture of silver coins (the 'Reale') and gold coins (the 'Doubloon') with modified plating and finishes.
The top section of our photo shows one side of the coin and the bottom section shows the reverse. Just like the Spanish mints, our coins are made using the same molds to mint both silver and gold coins. Each coin is cast in zinc and is then plated with an Ersatz silver or gold antique finish.
Each metal coin is heavy, very solid and sounds like real Spanish treasure coins clinking in your pouch or treasure chest.
Each set includes:
- 1 each: Two Reale Coin (Type A, Ersatz Silver, Small Antiqued)
- 1 each: Two Escudo Doubloon (Type A, Ersatz Gold, Small Antiqued)
- 1 each: Two Reale Coin (Type B, Ersatz Silver, Small Antiqued)
- 1 each: Two Escudo Doubloon (Type B, Ersatz Gold, Small Antiqued)
- 1 each: Four Reale Coin (Type C, Ersatz Silver, Mid-Sized Antiqued)
- 1 each: Four Escudo Doubloon (Type C, Ersatz Gold, Mid-Sized Antiqued)
- 1 each: Eight Reale Coin (Type D, Ersatz Silver, Large Antiqued) Pieces of Eight
- 1 each: Eight Escudo Doubloon (Type D, Ersatz Gold, Large Antiqued) Pieces of Eight
The Two Reale Coin & Two Escudo Doubloon: (Type A & B)
(Type A) These small Spanish treasure coins are one inch in diameter, or 2.5cm, about the size of a quarter. The silver Two Reale coin and the gold Two Escudo Doubloon look alike with a shield-type design. These coins were minted from 1572 to 1734.
(Type B) The Two Reale Coin & Two Escudo Doubloon were also found in another design with a cross pattern on one side. These small Spanish treasure coins were also hand-struck cobs and generally minted from about 1651 to 1773.
The Four Reale Coin & Four Escudo Doubloon: (Type C)
These mid-sized coins are 1-1/4 inch diameter (about 3cm) and come in two shapes. The silver Two Reale coin and the gold Two Escudo Doubloon look alike with a shield-type design. These shield-type coins were minted from 1572 to 1734. (Note: This coin is delivered mixed together in bulk and selected at random - we are not able to fill orders for specific shape requests.)
The Eight Reale Coin & Eight Escudo Doubloon: (Type D) Pieces of Eight
This large coin is about the size of an old large silver dollar (1-1/2 inch diameter, about 4cm). The silver Eight Reale coin was known to have been cut into as many as eight pieces to make change. This lead to the term Pieces of Eight. The gold version of this coin is called the Eight Escudo Doubloon. These shield-type coins were minted from 1572 to 1734.
Note: These replica coins are made from non precious metals with no monetary value and are for entertainment only. The quarter in the photo is shown for size comparison only and is not included. |
