Retired By G2 (Sold Out)
Bowie Knife - Iron Mistress
Only 200 of the Iron Mistress Bowie Knives were made, and all are sold. This item is now retired.
A message from the manufacturer: There have been many knives made that are believed to be a Bowie knife. Well we want to make this one thing clear. All the G2 Bowies are based only upon those carried personally by Jim Bowie.
There has also been a lot of controversy surrounding Bowie knives. Many historians believed the first Bowie knife was made by Jim Bowie himself, and there are others who now believe it was originally made for Jim Bowie by a well known and renowned knife maker in Arkansas, James Black.
Historian Rick Baer collaborated on the design for this version of the Iron Mistress Bowie Knife, and here is what he had to say:
I was hooked on this knife ever since I was ten years old and saw the Hollywood movie by Warner Brothers, The Iron Mistress, with Alan Ladd as Jim Bowie. Ironically, the Iron Mistress Bowie knife has had a very unique story that makes it worthy of the mysteries surrounding the historical knife James Bowie owned. The bowie knife used in the movie was made by the prop department of Warner Brothers. In those days props were not kept as souvenirs or collectibles but owned by the studio. With the film completed the props were placed into storage but not for long. This knife prop would be rented for all of the following productions, The Alamo (with John Wayne), The Last Command, The Adventures of Jim Bowie (TV series) and even Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier (Disney). Miraculously, Hollywood kept using the same prop for the knife of Jim Bowie in films about him. Only in recent years have historians done greater research into the knife resulting in more historical versions.
The design of our Bowie knife is not based on the book description, but more on the Hollywood film version because the movie prop is the most associated design with the legend of Jim Bowie.
Who can forget the scene portraying James Black and his forging of the knife or the scene depicting the very real Sandbar duel where, in the film Bowie uses the blade for the first time. The legend among Bowie collectors of the elusive prop is almost as great as the legend of Bowies historical knife.
Since this is a historical copy we felt it necessary not to put any other markings other than what was on the original. It will come with a laminated card with each knife with a brief history and stating this is only one of 200 to ever be made.
This is and will be a highly collectible knife, but we felt that it needed to be a working knife, not just a stainless steel generic version as many are that have been made. This Bowie knife is made from 10/60 carbon steel, all hand hammered and hand ground, then highly polished, with a full tang and this blade comes with a sharp (workable) edge. The handle is made from an exotic hardwood that will last. The scabbard is wood that has been wrapped in leather with steel accents.
