Medieval shield symbols and armor were used to identify medieval knights in battle, one-on-one combat and in jousting tournaments. The colors of a knight were personalized and unique. This Richard Lion Heart shield is distinguished by three large golden lions on a red background which was the medieval shield design used by King Richard of England (Richard the Lion Heart). Each of these medieval shields is available with either a hanging back-chain (perfect for interior decorating) or with two 1 1/2 inch genuine leather straps already attached so you can use it right out of the box. Made with the re-enactor in mind, these tough medieval shields should be easily approved as SCA quality. (Additional edge padding might be required by some SCA groups.)
