As the Middle Ages gave way to the Renaissance, wood shields gradually yielded in popularity to steel Renaissance shields, such as this round, steel buckler. This Renaissance shield was easily maneuverable and strong. Made in India of 16 gauge steel with a rolled edge and leather grips. Popular from the late 15th until well into the 17th century.
